Convicted Specimen is a moving image piece that touches upon the subconscious choices humans make in their everyday lives and the link these choices have to the growing demand of gentrification within communities.

When reflecting upon this very defintion, imagine if we were to replace women with ‘animals’...

Misogyny is, by definition the dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against animals. Evidently, both definitons can be applied to both women and animals.

In conjunction, Speciesism is, by definition discrimination based on species membership. Such discrimination involves treating members of one species as morally more important than members of other species. This act or disposition can also, therefore be applied to the way in which women are treated in comparison to men, specifically by men.

These two forms of contempt are intertwined, simultaneously targeting the those who ‘appear’ more vulnerable and less able within society. This presumption of strength, that ‘only' man has, is force fed to us from birth and still continues to prevail within this simple comparison.
Misogyny is Speciesism, thus Speciesism is Misogyny
SCUM! creates a connection between Valarie Solanas’ SCUM Manifesto 1967 and the accepted treatment of women and animals within society.

The images shown within the film are of cattle crushes, a commonly used instrument to hold animals restrictively within animal agriculture echoing the contents of discovery of my other moving image titled Perversion for Sale.
